Project Tasks

• Tasks cooked (or at least half-baked):
  • 2V Dome Manufacturing & Assembly on 26-Mar-2000 (Picture Archive)
  • Pipe-end Flattener -- Started on 2-Apr-2000 and finished on 31-Apr-2000
    • Able to be operated by a single person!
    • Beveled 1" to 1-1/2" crush!
    • Crushes 3/4" EMT like butter -- we assume it will work on 1" EMT
  • 4V Dome Manufacturing & Assembly on 20/21-May-2000 (Picture Archive)
    • Although this dome had 3.85 times as many edges as the last dome, we manufactured it in the same amount of time thanks to Pipe Flattener!
    • The new bottleneck was the Finishing Station.
      Even with two Finishing Stations, this still seemed like the bottleneck!
    • Unfortunately, the Pipe Flattener broke twice.
    • Everyone agreed that they liked the shorter pipe lengths (up to 43").
  • 6-Jun-2000 Meeting Details
  • Propane Experimentation on 1-July-2000:
    • "Wire Welding" Introduction
    • First attempt at a "Pulse Jet Instrument"
      • We took an 8' metal square tube (~1.5" cross-section) and welded a backplate with a 3/4" diameter hole in the end. We also drilled out 4 side holes and welded 3/4" pipe nipples onto them. We used a blower to feed air into the system and propane as fuel.
      • We were able to get the device to resonate, but unfortunately the flame put it self out at each resonation.
      • We determined we needed more research.

  • More Propane Experimentation at Keith's House:
    We will be experimenting with different processes of pyrotechnics using propane!
    Some items on the agenda:
    • Gas Flow Control (i.e. Solinoid)

    • Gas Atomizers

• Tasks on the burner:
  • Fix the Pipe Flattener:
    • Although the welding has been done, it still needed a new base with good horizontal stabization.
    • (A little more beveling?)

• Tasks waiting for the stove:
  • Remote MIDI Station w/ Laser (or RF) Transmitter
    • Paul Heilman () seems ready to get started on this.
      This brings up several questions:
      • Are we ready to commit to this part of the project?
      • What is it that we're really going to do?
        (I guess in any case, a remote MIDI device could be nice.)
      • Who's going to help him?
      • Do we need another planning meeting?
  • Web Site (by Kurt Pires ()):
    If we make this site public, I need to:

    • Make a Private Section
  • Design "Skirt" for 4V Beta Dome
    • This should raise the 4V by around 39" making it about 13.75' tall.
    • Do we make it straight down or continue the spherical curve inward?
      • Which is stonger, better and/or cooler?
